Introducing Lucy Dewsnap, aka BearSuit. A Barnsley-based multimedia artist exploring ecological themes through their multifaceted practice.
Bearsuit is a BA (hons) and MA fine art graduate and has been working professionally as an artist since 2021. Bearsuit leads community workshops whilst exhibiting around Yorkshire. Most notably, they exhibited as part of the ones to watch 2023 and had their first major solo exhibition, Human animal, In October 25 - Jan 26.
Through the Bearsuit persona, Lucy combines personal narrative with the fantastical. Alongside her artistic practice, they are both a resident artist, and associate artist in partnership with the Barnsley civic and work on projects from their studio in the centre of Barnsley.

"My practice is varied in medium but relative in subject as an extensive and explorative form of storytelling; from the lungs of a conflicted hybrid. The human animal.
I am interested in interspecies relationships and languages that stretch beyond human understanding. What is it to be human? How is it that all living beings, human and nonhuman, can be unified for shared sentience yet segregated upon a spectrum of existence?
Much like the nesting bird, its work (nest) is reflective of its habitat; My own habitat of Barnsley is a unique ecosystem, it is its own composite animal. The land is ever changing, and nature seems even more conflicted in this territorial rut. "
