LANDSCAPE PAINTING

Get to grips with the technical aspects of portrait painting under the guidance of professional teaching artist Lucy Dewsnap. 

On this one-day workshop, you will delve into the process of painting landscapes from a reference image. Come away with your own painted landscape and some new skills to put into practise in future paintings.

Join us and our artist in residence Lucy Dewsnap April 24th - 26th 2024 for 2 days of tailored painting tutoring in the beautiful Nidderdale countryside.
Options for overnight accommodation or day attendance only.

Set on a working farm, guests will find themselves immersed in the tranquillity of rural countryside landscape.  During your stay you will have the opportunity to immortalise these views in your very own painting in artist-led workshops.

Get to grips with the technical aspects of portrait painting under the guidance of professional teaching artist Lucy Dewsnap.

On this one-day workshop, you will delve into the process of painting a portrait from a reference image, taking particular note of facial proportions. Come away with your own painted portrait and some new skills to put into practise in future paintings.

The workshop is suitable for early career artists or beginners who would like to progress from drawing to using paints in their portraits. It will be taught with step-by-step directions to build your confidence in painting.

Basic materials such as pencils, charcoal, cartridge paper, brushes and acrylics will be provided, as well as drawing boards and easels. You will need to bring a canvas board or canvas paper to work on. Please bring an apron or wear old clothes to avoid getting mucky!

Bring out your inner artist by exploring the fundamentals of drawing and painting on this six-week course.

Start with the basics and understand how to use traditional drawing techniques to re-create still life objects on paper or to accurately depict the proportions of a face, progressing onto tone and colour to create a painting. 

Working in an intimate group, you will be able to get in-depth tuition from your teaching artist, to successfully advance from working with photographs to working from life. It is here that you can push your creativity and put your spin on the subject! The skills gained from this course will give you the confidence to continue developing your own personal practice.
